Description of Aphelenchoides stellatus n. sp. (Nematoda: Aphelenchoididae) found in packaging wood from Japan

Abstract: Aphelenchoides stellatus n. sp. is described and figured. The new species was isolated from packaging wood from Japan imported to Ningbo harbour, China. The new species has a body length of 485-533 g m (males) and 547-699 p m (females). The cuticle is weakly annulated and there are four lines in the lateral field. The stylet is 9-11 p m long and has small basal swellings. The excretory pore is located posterior to the nerve ring. Spicules smoothly curved, rose-thorn shaped. Apex and rostrum round, only slightl… Show more

“…In the phylograms, Aphelenchoides appears to be polyphyletic, a finding that agrees with previous studies (Zhao et al, 2008;Rybarczyk-Myd1owska et al, 2012;Wang et al, 2013;Fang et al, 2014aFang et al, , 2014bEsmaeili et al, 2016). Aphelenchoides, Laimaphelenchus, and Schistonchus s.l.…”

“…n. were compared with those of other aphelenchids species available in GenBank (see Table 1 for selected sequences of SSU and Table 2 for LSU D2-D3) using BLAST homology search program. Outgroup was chosen according to previous published data (Fang et al, 2014a(Fang et al, , 2014bEsmaeili et al, 2016). The newly obtained and published sequences were aligned using MAFFT ver.…”

“…is grouped with other genera of Aphelenchoidinae, i.e., Ficophagus Davies, Ye, Kanzaki, Bartholomaeus, Zeng, and Giblin-Davis, 2015, Martininema Davies, Ye, Kanzaki, Bartholomaeus, Zeng, and Giblin-Davis, 2015, Laimaphelenchus Fuchs, 1937, and Schistonchus s.s. Davies, Ye, Kanzaki, Bartholomaeus, Zeng, and Giblin-Davis, 2015, in clade 2. According to our molecular analysis, the members of the genus Aphelenchoides appears to be paraphyletic, a finding that agrees with previous studies (Zhao et al, 2008;Rybarczyk-Mydl À owska et al, 2012;Wang et al, 2013;Fang et al, 2014aFang et al, , 2014bMiraeiz et al, 2015;Esmaeili et al, 2016aEsmaeili et al, , 2016bGolhasan et al, 2016). Furthermore Aphelenchoides, Laimaphelenchus, and Schistonchus s. l cannot be clearly separated, possibly implying that all the genera share a recent common ancestor (Zeng et al, 2007).…”

“…The tree topology for each gene was determined separately using MrBayes 3.1.2 (Ronquist & Huelsenbeck, 2003). The running programs of the trees were as described by Fang et al (2014). The consensus trees were selected to represent the phylogenetic relationships with branch length and support level, and visualised using TreeGraph2 (Stöver & Müller, 2010).…”
