Depth- and breadth-first processing of search result lists

Abstract: This short paper, adapted from the Extended Abstracts of CHI 2004 by the third author, is reproduced here as a simple example of the use of the L A T E X 2e style file iui05.sty. Simply replace each part of the paper with your own content. Handle figures, tables, and equations with your usual L A T E Xmethods. (For the camera-ready papers for IUI 2005, there will probably be additional instructions and macros to cover these details.) KeywordsWorld-wide web, search, eye tracking

“…However, this study only collected eye movements from three subjects, so the generalizability is unclear, and furthermore, no other measures of searcher performance were addressed. Larger-scale studies were performed by Brumby and Howes Howes 2003, 2004] and by Klöckner et al [Klöckner et al 2004]. Both studies analyze how users scan a list of results and how they trade-off exploring the result set with exploring outgoing links.…”

“…Therefore, the consequences of introducing several modalities and an increased amount of content in a result list must be balanced against the benefit of introducing visual content. However, since most users seem to evaluate result lists linearly and only consider the top results [21,22], it is possible that reducing the results per page may compensate for some size effect. More research is needed to conclude on the efficiency of such an interface.…”

“…But the problem of DFS is, it normally searches by moving forward but not by considering cost. We also analysis breadth first search algorithm [14] and heuristic search [13] algorithm to get out expected result. To get the optimized cost base solution, we analysis Dijkstra's Algorithm [14].…”
