“…6 Third, mental disorders and PTSD may cause biological and behavioral changes that increase the risk of physical disease, leading to greater medical utilization. 28 , 29,[12][13][14][30][31][32][33][34] Finally, there may be an increased likelihood of detection of medical problems in veterans with mental health problems, for example, through symptoms identified by mental health providers. Veterans with comorbid mental and physical problems may also be more likely to enroll in primary care, which could lead to increased utilization of other services, such as preventive screening through laboratory and diagnostic tests.…”

“…Many studies have demonstrated that depressive symptoms are also related to such factors. Patients with elevated depressive symptoms may have not only unhealthy lifestyles but allostasis including autonomic nervous system dysregulation, which may lead to metabolic abnormalities such as increased visceral adiposity, dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure, and insulin resistance (4,21). A previous study suggested that autonomic nervous system dysregulation was independently associated with the presence of metabolic syndrome, the number of metabolic dysregulation as well as all individual components except for HDL cholesterol (22).…”

“…Many clinical studies have shown that depression is a major predictor of cardiovascular outcomes (2,3). Research suggests that one plausible potential mechanism is derived from metabolic syndrome (4). This syndrome is noted worldwide as a possible cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and consists of atherogenic dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure, increased glucose concentration, as well as prothrombotic and proinflammatory states (5,6).…”

“…Hronični stres, taloženjem abdominalne masti, klinički se manifestuje nelagodnočću u stomaku, glavoboljom, nesanicom, osećajem straha, depresijom, osećajem ljutnje, hipertenzijom, hemoroidima, itd. [43,44]. Epidemiološke studije su jasno pokazale jasnu vezu između psiholoških faktora i kardiovaskularnih bolesti ali postoji izražena sumnja o tome da li je ova pojava uzročno-posledično povezana, odnosno, nije jasno kako se psihosocijalni faktori uklapaju u ovu sliku.…”
