“…This paper describes how such an approach to psychotherapy would be applied to the case of Silvia, the patient who is the focus of this symposium (Caro, 2001). Our approach is based on the prescriptive model of social problem solving originally delineated by D'Zurilla and Goldfried (1971) and later revised by D'Zurilla and Nezu (1982,1999; Nezu & D'Zurilla, 1989) and their colleagues (e.g., Nezu, Nezu, & Perri, 1989; Nezu, Nezu, Rothenberg, & D'Zurilla, 1996).
