Density, viscosity and refractive index of the dimethyl sulfoxide + o-xylene system

Abstract: This work reports the experimental results of the densities, viscosities and refractive indices between 298.15 and 323.15 K of the dimethyl sulfoxide + + o-xylene system over the entire composition range of the mixtures. The excess molar volumes (V E ), viscosity deviations ( ν), excess Gibbs energy of activation of viscous flow (G * E ) and deviations in the refraction ( R) were calculated from the experimental data; all the computed quantities were fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation. The system exhibits m… Show more

“…The variation of specific conductivity values with temperature were obtained with the following standard deviations: s = 0.236 for ChCl + EG, s = 0.078 for ChCl + TEA and s = 0.270 for ChCl + OxA. The obtained values for all the three investigated systems are similar to those for other ChCl-based ILs [2,12,21,28,32] and support the hypothesis that these types of liquids are highly conducting, thereby confirming that the ionic species are dissociated in the liquid and can move independently.…”

“…McAllister [16] propounded the three body interaction approach and proposed the correlative model by developing the cubic equation on the basis of Eyring's absolute rate theory for calculating kinematic viscosities of liquid mixtures [28,29]. The equation takes the form:…”
