Dendrimer, Liposomes, Carbon Nanotubes and PLGA Nanoparticles: One Platform Assessment of Drug Delivery Potential

Abstract: Abstract. Liposomes (LIP), nanoparticles (NP), dendrimers (DEN), and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), represent eminent classes of drug delivery devices. A study was carried out herewith by employing docetaxel (DTX) as model drug to assess their comparative drug delivery potentials. Under optimized conditions, highest entrapment of DTX was observed in CNT-based formulation (DTX-CNTs, 74.70± 4.9%) followed by nanoparticles (DTX-NP, 62.34±1.5%), liposome (49.2±1.51%), and dendrimers (28.26± 1.74%). All the formulations … Show more

“…Similarly, docetaxel can be conjugated to carbon nanontubes (CNTs) which exhibit the highest drug entrapment (Mody et al, 2014). Use of Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is a novel drug delivery vehicle that is being explored in in-vitro systems for delivery of drugs, proteins, plasmid DNA and RNAi (Wang et al, 2011).…”

“…Various reports clearly reveal that functionalized CNTs are one of the major tools to target different types of disease, including cancer [19]. In terms of higher drug-loading efficiency, CNTs are proving themselves better carriers compared with other nanocarriers, such as polymeric as well as solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, dendrimers, and liposomes [20]. The SWCNT-doxorubicin (DOX) Carbon nanotube (CNT) toxicity profiles, including their physical attributes, rationale, types, mechanism and level Q12…”

“…Lately, a divergence towards CNTs has been utilized in scientific circles, as drug delivery carriers, as a few recent research reports indicate their superiority over the routinely employed colloidal drug delivery carriers, viz. liposomes, nanoparticles, and dendrimers (4). In most of the studies, conducted so far, CNTs have been employed as Bcargo vehicles^to deliver the drug to the desired sites (3,4).…”
