Abstract:The self-seeded cavity appeared in the last few years as a colorless and low cost solution for wavelength division multiplexing access. Although the self-seeded source presents a simple architecture, its behavior has been misunderstood for a long time. In this paper, we explain its operating principles and why we can define such a source as a laser. We evidence a laser threshold and show cavity modes for various lengths. We describe the conditions required by the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier to s… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
