Demonstration by Electron Microscopy of Viruses in Cells Found by Light Microscopy to Contain Inclusion Bodies

Abstract: Recently, a method was developed in this laboratory by means of which inclusion bodies found in cells during examination of histological sections might be processed for electron microscopy and by which the presence or absence of viruses in these bodies would be determined. The results of applying this method to the inclusion bodies of psittacosis, canine infectious hepatitis, equine viral rhinopneumonitis, bovine rabies and canine distemper are described. These demonstrate that definitive diagnosis can be esta… Show more

“…Transmission can occur vertically through congenital infection, however, horizontal transmission is the main mean of infection. Dogs are the definitive hosts of N. caninum that causes Neosporidiose disease, which can be transmitted horizontally or vertically, and it has maintained the parasite for generations amongst the canines [84].…”
