Delamination and Manufacturing Defects in Natural Fiber-Reinforced Hybrid Composite: A Review

Abstract: In recent years, most boat fabrication companies use 100% synthetic fiber-reinforced composite materials, due to their high performance of mechanical properties. In the new trend of research on the fabrication of boat structure using natural fiber hybrid with kevlar/fiberglass-reinforced composite, the result of tensile, bending, and impact strength showed that glass fiber-reinforced polyester composite gave high strength with increasing glass fiber contents. At some point, realizing the cost of synthetic fibe… Show more

“…Being recalcitrant or not biodegradable makes petroleum-based plastics one of the most critical issues to the environment currently. Thus, there is an urgent necessity to sub-stitute other eco-friendly alternatives for these materials [14][15][16][17]. In this context, biodegradable plastics, which are naturally made from biopolymers or synthesized bio-based polymers, seem a promising alternative to replace or at least to reduce the extensive use of conventional plastics and their harmful waste [18][19][20][21][22][23].…”

“…Fracture properties of the composite laminates were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and it was discovered that the failure was started at the weakest fiber layer. This phenomenon might be due to the failure modes, including delamination, debonding, matrix crack, fiber breaking, and fiber pull-out [ 179 , 180 , 181 , 182 , 183 , 184 , 185 , 186 ].…”

“…Polymer composites are globally recognized due to their thermal insulation properties. To improve their thermal and heat resistant performance further, certain metallic materials are added to polymers, such as copper [ 1 ], nickel [ 2 ], magnesium [ 3 , 4 , 5 ], and zinc [ 6 ]. The inclusion of metal component in polymer-based composites has produced new promising materials with high potential in various engineering sectors.…”
