The behavior of several pesticides in aqueous solution, namely bifenthrin, amethrin (pyrethroid insecticides), endosulfan and endosulfan sulfate (organochlorine pesticides), disulfoton, methyl pyrimiphos, and phorate (organophosphorus pesticides), submitted to the conditions typically employed in water treatment stations was investigated. Continuous pesticide depletion was monitored by solid-phase microextraction sampling followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The influence of major parameters (sodium hypochloride concentration, solution pH, and exposure time to ultraviolet (UV) light) was, thus, adequately established via two complementary approaches: factorial (2 3 , three variables-two levels) and Doehlert designs. Hence, the sodium hypochloride concentration and the solution pH produced distinct effects depending on the pesticide evaluated (for instance, acidic and basic media caused increasing rates of degradation for the organophosphorus/pyrethroid and organochlorine pesticides, respectively). Conversely, higher rates of degradation were achieved for all of the pesticides investigated when increased exposure times to UV radiation were employed. Finally, the exposure time to UV radiation that lead to complete degradation of disulfoton and endosulfan sulfate (organophosphorus and organochlorine pesticides, respectively) in aqueous media under ordinary conditions employed in water treatment stations was established; disulfoton and endosulfan sulfate were completely degraded after 10 and 40 h, respectively.

ResumoDe acordo com as modificações verificadas entre a Portaria 518/2004 e a 2914/2011, escolheram-se onze agrotóxicos que foram acrescentados a esta para a realização de uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a remoção dos mesmos nos processos de tratamento de água. Verificou-se que as etapas do tratamento de ciclo completo não ofereceram elevadas remoções, com exceção de um composto. Para tecnologias como a radiação UV, ozonização e POAs, muitos estudos chegaram próximos a 100,0% de remoção, porém alguns tratamentos utilizam tempos de contato inviáveis. Os processos de adsorção mostraram-se eficientes quando aliados a outras tecnologias, e poucos estudos foram encontrados sobre nanofiltração. Verificou-se a necessidade de estudos sobre a formação de produtos tóxicos e com relação à remoção de alguns compostos nas diferentes etapas de tratamento de uma ETA. Palavras-chave: Agrotóxicos. MB decolarization with pure TiO2 and Ag doped TiO2 based photocatalytic system were investigated under UV-A and UV-Visible conditions. Different ratios of Ag were used as metal dopant. 1% Ag-TiO2 increased the decolorization efficiencies of MB and MO dyes, also the kapp constant enhanced under UV-A and UVVisible conditions. A central composite analysis showed the effect of initial dye concentration, pH, Ag-TiO2 concentration and the reaction time of photocatalytic process under UV-A irridation in both dyes. The photocatalytic degradation pathways of both dyes by Ag doped TiO2 catalyst were obtained in this study. According to these results, the application of Ag-TiO2 catalyst are proved to be more effective than pure TiO2 catalyst for both MB and MO removal. The toxicity test of Daphnia Magna shows that non toxic wastewater discharge to the receiving environment could be possible with photocatalytic degration by Ag-TiO2 catalyst.
