The paper aims at the research of pioneering applications of geosynthetic materials used for improvement of anthropogenic material for road contraction challenges in Poland. The presented case study concerns a road embankment construction process within an area of underground mining coal extraction for which significant deformations have been frequently recorded. To improve the bearing capacity of the structure base, the geosynthetic materials were used. The question; however, was how the anthropogenic materials, filling the embankment, will interact with each other over time. The assessment of the structural condition of the motorway surface was performed using the falling weight deflectometer and the calculated modules based on the back-analysis method. They confirmed the effectiveness of the geosynthetics used in the study. They also revealed that the mining exploitation, with simultaneous use of aggregate stabilization with geogrids, did not cause significant changes in the stiffness of the pavement layers. All observations, based on both field and laboratory tests, did not show any negative impact of anthropogenic soils on the structural behavior of geogrids.The present paper describes a case study on road construction works on post-mining areas. It concerns an underground mining coal extraction site where a new motorway was planned to be constructed. However, due to significant deformation of the ground surface, caused by former mining excavations, the sophisticated ground improvement methods were necessary to be applied. For the linear structures, like roads, or other geotechnical investments the mining activity is a major safety threat, thus the need of maintenance efforts increase significantly [14][15][16][17].Recently, a peculiar revolution in the field of understanding and describing the geogrid interaction with the unbound aggregate has been observed. It mainly concerns the road construction and ground mechanical condition improvement. An improved performance of the pavement due to the geosynthetic reinforcement and bearing capacity improvement [18][19][20][21][22][23] depends on main mechanisms [24][25][26]:

Featured Application: Recycled Concrete Aggregate can be a very good alternative material for natural aggregate. Using soil-rubber mixture as an engineering material may not only provide alternative means of reusing waste but also significantly change dynamic properties of soil.Abstract: This paper discusses the application of piezoceramic bender elements (BEs) for measurement of shear wave velocity in the time and frequency domain in a triaxial cell under different isotropic confinement. Different interpretation methods were used in the tests and their results were finally compared with each other. Two types of anthropogenic material were tested: pure Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) and RCA-rubber chips mixtures (15% of rubber addition). Presented study is an attempt to describe dynamic properties, in terms of shear wave velocity (V S ), of the aforementioned anthropogenic material using the technique commonly applied for natural soil. Although some research is currently being carried out, in order to evaluate physical, chemical and mechanical properties of RCA and rubber-soil mixtures, still little is known of their dynamic properties. Hence, this work will provide the experimental results of shear wave velocity of RCA and its modified version. The results show that tires chips significantly decrease the V S values of modified RCA. They help to reduce the near field effect, but the received parameters are more incoherent. The V S values were found to be influenced by interpretation technique, mean effective stress and wave's propagation period. The maximum V S values were obtained mostly from the frequency domain method, although time domain analysis gives the results that are more coherent.

Since the existence of cement concrete, the early cracking problem of recycled concrete directly affects the application of concrete in engineering. Cracks can increase the permeability of concrete and lead to the decrease of structural durability of concrete in the corrosive environment. The reason causing this fatal problem is the shrinkage of concrete. The purpose of this paper is to improve the durability and integrity of concrete structure and understand its shrinkage. After the initial solidification and hardening of concrete, the volume deformation will cause the internal stress of the recycled concrete due to constraints. When the internal stress is greater than the tensile strength of recycled concrete, the recycled concrete will crack in the early stage. The study of early crack has always been the focus of scholars. Through the efforts of many scholars, factors leading to early cracking have been gradually discovered, such as hydration reaction of cement components in concrete, microstructure change, and external environment. In this paper, the influence of chemical shrinkage and temperature shrinkage on the early cracking of recycled concrete is analyzed by studying the chemical composition of the raw material of recycled concrete for chemical experiments and comparing the recycled concrete in a constant temperature studio with different temperatures. It is concluded that the composition of concrete and the content of each component have direct influence on the chemistry. Concrete containing more C3A has greater chemical reduction. Temperature difference is the main factor causing temperature shrinkage, including the heat released by component hydration. In addition to the change in the external temperature, the temperature of the concrete will also decrease, leading to early cracking.
