Deformation and pressure propagation in deep somatic tissue during painful cuff algometry

Abstract: This study shows the better capability of cuff algometry for stimulation of deep somatic tissue in terms of generation of mechanical stress and strain in contrast to the more superficial muscle tissue previously demonstrated to be strained by single-point pressure algometry.

“…All nodes of the bony structures were defined as fixed constraints (Finocchietti et al, 2013;Manafi-Khanian et al, 2015a); i.e. the bones did not have any movement during the simulation, while the nodes of the soft tissue were left free (Manafi- Khanian et al, 2015a,b) to have displacement in space in all directions.…”

“…Previous studies investigating nontime-dependent mechanical behaviour of tissue in single-point (Finocchietti et al, 2013) and cuff algometry (Manafi-Khanian et al, 2015a) have indicated that the skin layer is subjected to the greatest value of stress during the mechanical stimulations. “…La algometría por presión se considera un método útil para calcular el grado de sensibilización de los tejidos profundos (294). Este método se lleva a cabo mediante un instrumento denominado algómetro, que, en el presente estudio, estaba compuesto por un manómetro adherido a una punta de goma cilíndrica.…”
