The controlled release of drug molecules to a specific brain tumour's tissue has been recognized as one of the most demanding researches for treatment of brain cancer, because it helps to avoid the side effects from systemic drug delivery techniques. In the present work, described an electrochemically controlled drug delivery performed with a reduced graphene oxide (rGO)‐drug composite. The rGO was loaded with a temozolomide (TMZ) molecule (rGO‐TMZ) exhibits electrochemical oxidation and reduction peak in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4). In response to be electrochemical potential, the rGO‐TMZ composite releases TMZ drug, and TMZ drug dosage that can be adjusted by altering the electrochemical potential with time. Upon application of an electrochemical potential pulse (0.8 V) for 20 min duration, up to 83% of TMZ was released into citrate buffer solution at pH 5.0. In vitro, cell culture experiments demonstrate that the released TMZ drug retains its bioactivity. The electrochemically controlled rGO‐TMZ composite drug delivery platform makes it an exciting candidate for on‐demand drug delivery for effective treatment of brain cancer.

Effect of GO Additive in ZnO/rGO Nanocomposites with Enhanced Photosensitivity and Photocatalytic Activity

Zinc oxide/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites (ZnO/rGO) are synthesized via a simple one-pot solvothermal technique. The nanoparticle–nanorod turnability was achieved with the increase in GO additive, which was necessary to control the defect formation. The optimal defect in ZnO/rGO not only increased ZnO/rGO surface and carrier concentration, but also provided the alternative carrier pathway assisted with rGO sheet for electron–hole separation and prolonging carrier recombination. These properties are ideal for photodetection and photocatalytic applications. For photosensing properties, ZnO/rGO shows the improvement of photosensitivity compared with pristine ZnO from 1.51 (ZnO) to 3.94 (ZnO/rGO (20%)). Additionally, applying bending strain on ZnO/rGO enhances its photosensitivity even further, as high as 124% at r = 12.5 mm, due to improved surface area and induced negative piezoelectric charge from piezoelectric effect. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity with methylene blue (MB) was studied. It was observed that the rate of MB degradation was higher in presence of ZnO/rGO than pristine ZnO. Therefore, ZnO/rGO became a promising materials for different applications.

Here, we report a unique hybrid sandwich‐type composite structure consisting of waste cigarette wrapper (CW) inserted in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite matrix that displays a high EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of ~50.79 dB in the extended Ku‐band. The function of the inserted CW is to facilitate the multiple reflections and heat dissipation as it contains an Al coating. The interior of CW in the composite as well as the three‐dimensional conductive networks of RGO throughout the PDMS matrix facilitates the microwave absorption through conductive dissipation and heat dissipation. Thus, an absorption‐multiple reflection‐absorption pathway is followed due to the combination of three sandwiched layers, that is, PDMS‐RGO, CW, and PDMS‐RGO. The sandwich architecture of the hybrid PDMS nanocomposite containing both CW and RGO displays a superior EMI SE over the nanocomposite that only contains RGO as filler in PDMS matrix. Moreover, the fabricated composite displays a high thermal conductivity which helps to dissipate the radiated microwave energy via a Joule heating effect. Thus, the fabricated lightweight and flexible hybrid composite structure could be an efficient microwave absorber which offers an attractive and cost‐effective alternative approach to metal based conventional EMI shielding materials.
