Deeply inelastic pions in the exclusive reactionp(e,eπ+)nabove the resonance region

Abstract: A model for the pðe; e 0 þ Þn reaction which combines an improved treatment of gauge invariant mesonexchange currents and hard deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) of virtual photons off nucleons is proposed. It is shown that DIS dominates and explains the transverse response at moderate and high photon virtualities Q 2 , whereas the longitudinal response is dominated by hadronic degrees of freedom and the pion electromagnetic form factor. This leads to a combined description of the longitudinal and transverse comp… Show more

“…The latter dependence may be expected if σ L scaled according to the hard scattering prediction and σ T as in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS). This would be consistent with recent theoretical work, which suggested that σ T could be described as the semi-inclusive production limit through the fragmentation mechanism [27]. For both pions and kaons, at small values of −t and x B this fit form seems to agree better with the data, while bins with larger −t or x B seem to favor the hard scattering fit form.…”

“…[271]. The microscopic input for the primary interaction of the virtual photon with the nucleon follows the GiBUU model which describes both the transverse and the longitudinal cross sections [272]. The coupled-channel GiBUU transport model has been used to describe the FSI of hadrons in the nuclear medium.…”

“…The idea proposed in [272,273,433] is to treat exclusive meson production as an exclusive limit of semi-inclusive DIS. This is in spirit of the exclusive-inclusive connection [434].…”

“…[9]. The approach followed there is to complement the hadron-like interaction types in the t channel, which dominate in photoproduction and low Q 2 electroproduction, by a direct interaction of virtual photons with partons followed by string (quark) fragmentation into π + n. Then σ T can be readily explained and both σ L and σ T can be described from low to high values of Q 2 .…”
