Decision-Making Model for Student Assessment by Unifying Numerical and Linguistic Data

Abstract: Learning assessment deals with the process of making a decision on the quality or performance of student achievement in a number of competency standards. In the process, teacher's preferences are provided through both test and non-test, generally in a numeric value, from which the final results are then converted into letters or linguistic value. In the proposed model, linguistic variables are exploited as a form of teacher's preferences in nontest techniques. Consequently, the assessment data set will consist… Show more

“…The government policy determines to make decision recommendations and impacts of risks by combining opinions and thoughts of decision-makers using Group Decision Support System (GDSS) modeling. GDSS modeling is a system that can be used to support the meeting of a group of people who interact with each other in accomplishing a job [7]- [10], from several people with different skills.…”

“…Others have also claimed that individuals cannot use an exact number to express their opinion about a given situation. Instead of that, linguistic assessment is preferred to represent that specific numerical value (Herrera & Herrera-Viedma, 2000;Herrera, López, Mendana, & Rodríguez, 1999;Kacprzyk, 1986;Andayani, Hartati, Wardoyo, & Mardapi, 2017;Carrasco, Villar, Hornos, & Herrera-Viedma, 2011;Chang & Wang, 2016;Cabrerizo, López-Gijón, Martínez, Morente-Molinera, & Herrera-Viedma, 2017). In order to consider human perceptions, the fuzzy set theory is increasingly applied in these situations as they improve successfully the reliability of service process measurements and evaluations (Li, 2013;Lupo, 2013;Lin, 2010a;Deng, 2008).…”

“…Assessment of learning and training requires a systematic approach to determine a person's achievements and areas of difficulty. Generally, assessment method is designed to evaluate many competencies but the final 3305 result is merely a grade without any description about student's achievement in every competency [17]. Standardized assessment methods often take less time and are easier to administer, and their results are readily interpretable [18].…”
