Decapod crustaceans from the state of Ceará, northeastern Brazil: an updated checklist of marine and estuarine species, with 23 new records

Abstract: The present study is the first major assessment of the marine decapod fauna of Ceará, northeastern Brazil, since contributions of J. Fausto-Filho in the 1960s-1970s. A fully updated checklist of all decapod crustaceans occurring in marine and estuarine habitats of Ceará is provided, based on literature records, specimens held in two carcinological collections of the Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), and material collected mainly by the authors between 2011 and 2014. A total of 337 decapod species are listed… Show more

“…Furthermore, fecundity can also be affected by local environmental conditions (Pandian 2016). Therefore, to better understand the reasons for the low fecundity observed for L. vittata in this study, further studies are needed to investigate the fecundity of this shrimp in other regions, such as the Atlantic Ocean (where this shrimp is considered an invasive species) (Soledade et al 2013;Pachelle et al 2016) and the Pacific Ocean (Ahyong 2010). Notably, fecundity has only been in investigated in a small proportion of species of the Lysmata genus, despite the ecological (Calado 2006;Rosa et al 2014) and economic Rhyne et al 2017) importance of these shrimp.…”

“…This is the seventh record of L. lipkei. After being originally described from Japan by Okuno & Fiedler (2010), reported again from Japan by De Grave et al (2012), and subsequently reported from Singapore by Anker & De Grave (2016); this species, based on morphological and genetic data, was recorded from the south-western Atlantic Ocean, Brazil, and classified as alien there by Alves et al (2018) as well two other records from Brazil (Pachelle et al 2016(Pachelle et al , 2020. The present report on L. lipkei from Madagascar significantly extends its known Indo-West Pacific range to the south-west Indian Ocean.…”
