Aim: To find out the level of death anxiety and depression level among Turkish elderly people. Methods: This research was carried out on 106 elderly people aged 60 years and older from three different nursing homes. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, t-test, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and correlations were used for the analyses. Results: The 25.4% of elderly were between 65-69 years old, and included most of the elderly who were male (83%), single (92.5%) and retired (35.8%).The overall mean on depression was 14.43, and the death anxiety was 7.57. Mild depression was found in 69.8%, and no symptoms of depression were reported by 16% of the subjects. A positive correlation was found between total score of GDS and TDAS (r: 0.304, p<0.01). Conclusion: Healthcare professionals working with elderly people in nursing homes should be aware about death anxiety of the elderly.

One of the psychological impact suffered by PLWHA after HIV-AIDS was death anxiety. Excessive death anxiety would cause emotional function disorder such as neurotisma, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. The purpose of research was to describe the level of death anxiety in PLWHA in cilincing Puskesmas North Jakarta. The research was quantitative descriptive. The population was PLWHA in Puskesmas Cilincing. The samples were 30 respondents with consecutive sampling technique. The instruments used were Templer Death Anxiety Scale had done the validity test with the results of a range of values from 0.30 to 0.74 and test the reliability of 0.734. Univariat data were analyzed by frequency distribution. The results of this analysis, it is known that more than half of respondents (56.7%) had high death anxiety, and almost half of respondents (43.3%) had low. It could be concluded that the newly diagnosed PLWHA over the past year to experience anxiety about the high mortality. Kecemasan terhadap kematian yang berlebih akan menimbulkan gangguan fungsi emosional seperti neurotisma, depresi, dan gangguan psikosomatis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan tingkat kecemasan terhadap kematian pada ODHA di Puskesmas Kecamatan Cilincing Jakarta Utara. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah ODHA di Puskesmas Kecamatan Cilincing. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 30 responden dengan teknik pengambilan sampel consecutive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu Templer Death Anxiety Scale yang sudah dilakukan uji validitas dengan hasil rentang nilai 0,30-0,74 dan uji reliabilitas sebesar 0,734. Analisis data univariat dilakukan dengan menggunakan distribusi frekuensi. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu diketahui bahwa lebih dari setengah responden (56,7%) mengalami kecemasan terhadap kematian yang tinggi, dan hampir setengah responden (43,3%) lainnya mengalami kecemasan terhadap kematian yang rendah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ODHA yang baru di diagnosa dalam satu tahun terakhir mengalami kecemasan terhadap kematian tinggi.

This article seeks to establish the ambiguous nature of Ivan Ilych's illness in Leo Tolstoy's novella The Death of Ivan Ilych (1886), and it then proceeds to offer sociocultural commentary on an incurable illness that results in the death of the title character. Regardless of the exact nature of Ivan Ilych's illness, however, the story suggests that Ivan lived the "wrong" kind of life despite his self-deception and the lies of those around him. Some readers might be intrigued by the mysterious ailment of Ivan Ilych that aggravates into an agonizing death, and some might read the story as a pathography and ponder the doctors' possible diagnoses alluded to in the text like a floating kidney, a vermiform appendix or a chronic catarrh. While others, on the other hand, might argue for alternative illnesses (not mentioned in the text) allowing for a case like cancer. However, reading the story as a parable to be decoded by physicians using medical expertise does not do justice to its symbolic engagement with illness. It is argued that the text seems to favor a reading that connects ailment to the lifestyle one is following and to one's own personality or social class. In this regard, the article works at the intersection between the humanities and "medical theories" as adapted for literary ends. Ivan Ilych led the wrong form of life in his pursuit of wealth and hypocritical relations. Therefore, his terminal illness-read as a form of pancreatic cancer-is a figure for an "unhealthy" upper middle-class life lived at the wrong side emotionally, socially and physically. Within the interdisciplinary approach of this article, the metaphorical significance of illness is more important than specifying the exact illness that eventually causes Ivan Ilych's death because this illness is significantly symbolic beyond its literal sense. Therefore, the symbolic representation/understanding of illness-of cancer in particular-as a social blight or a scourge related to social behavior is insightful for physicians and patients alike.
