DC-Signal Injection for Stator-Resistance Estimation in Symmetrical Six-Phase Induction Motors Under Open-Phase Fault

Abstract: Multiphase machines are often chosen due to their enhanced fault tolerance. Six-phase ones are especially convenient because they may be fed by off-the-shelf three-phase converters. In particular, those with symmetrical windings offer superior postfault capabilities. On the other hand, estimation of the stator resistance is important for purposes such as thermal monitoring and preserving control performance. Resistance estimation by dcsignal injection provides low sensitivity to parameter deviations compared w… Show more

“…A potential subject of future work is devising a technique for estimating online the stator resistances in individual phases [46], but suitable for OPFs, in a simple manner and without extra hardware. This might be attempted, e.g., by suitably adapting the approach from [50]. Another aspect that could be studied to a greater extent is, e.g., the possibility of including the effects of non-negligible space harmonics in the optimization, such as those related to the rotor and iron losses, as well as the converter losses.…”
