Database of processing techniques and processing factors compatible with the EFSA food classification and description system FoodEx 2 Objective 3: European database of processing factors for pesticides in food

Abstract: EFSA is conducting pan‐European dietary exposure and risk assessments related to actual levels of pesticide residues in food commodities. These assessments use the pesticide occurrence data generated under the official monitoring programs of Member States, the consumption data from EFSA's comprehensive food consumption database and pesticide‐specific information such as processing factors. Currently no harmonised list of processing factors is available within Europe and worldwide. The overall objective of this… Show more

“…Processing factors obtained or extrapolated from the European database on processing factors for pesticides in food (Scholz et al, 2018) CAG-TCP: cumulative assessment group of pesticides associated with hypertrophy, hyperplasia and neoplasia of C-cells; CAG-TCF: cumulative assessment group of pesticides associated with hypothyroidism; MRL: maximum residue level; LOQ: limit of quantification. *: Accounts for substances that are not part of the CAG and for residue definitions that are not exclusive (see Section 2.4.1.1)…”

“…The European database on processing factors is the most recent and the most comprehensive compilation of processing factors currently available at EU level (Scholz et al, 2018). Processing factors for the active substances and RPCs under assessment were extracted from the database according to the following criteria.…”

“…In this respect processing factors are applied to each food commodity and active substance combination. A comprehensive European database of reliable processing factors for multiple active substances was recently published (Scholz et al, 2018) and should be applied in the framework of a combined risk assessment, even at Tier I level.…”

“…During the first part of the project, the objective was to understand and familiarise with the risk assessment procedures and European regulations of active substances and PPPs at European and national/zonal level. During the second part of the project, the aim was to assess the dietary exposure of the French population to multiple pesticides using the MCRA software while looking into the effect of processing factors by incorporating the newly published European database of processing factors for pesticides in food (Scholz et al, 2018) Integration in the projects and activities within the regulated products residue and consumer safety unit at ANSES was the core objective of the programme.…”
