Data on assessment excess lifetime cancer risk and risk of lung cancer from inhalation of Radon 222 in radiotherapy centers in Tehran, Iran

Abstract: The purpose of the data was to determine excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) and risk of lung cancer from inhalation of radon in radiotherapy staff at Tehran radiotherapy Centers in 2015.The concentration of radon gas was extracted from a study done at Tehran radiotherapy centers, and then ELCR and risk of lung cancer were calculated in all centers by standard equations. The excess lifetime cancer risk and risk of lung cancer were 1.89 and 8.46 cases per 100,000 people in radiotherapy centers in Tehran City. Th… Show more

“…The values of excess life cancer risk, ELCR 70 , obtained for the cement mortars ranged from 0.71 10 3 to 0.82 10 3 with the average value of 0.75 10 3 . Even though the world average value of ELCR for indoor gamma radiation 1.45 10 3 48 was not exceeded, the ELCR value of 0.8 is linked to the risk of developing lung cancer 0.378 per 100,000,000 people in accordance with Mirdoraghi et al 49 Mohammed and Ahmed 48 mentioned also the relationship between the ELCR value and the corresponding increased risk of cancer. According to the study, the ELCR equal to 1 may result in an increased risk of 0.004%.…”
