Dark and Photoelectric Investigation on Thin Films of β-Cobalt Phthalocyanine Dispersed in Polymers

Abstract: Electrical and photoelectrical measurements are made on thin films of β‐cobalt phthalocyanine particles in Schottky junction cells. The results of current density‐voltage characteristics in dark at constant temperature are interpreted in terms of a space charge limited mechanism dominated by an exponential distribution of trapping levels. An analysis of the results enables the determination of the Fermi temperature of the trap distribution. The dependence of the photovoltaic parameters on pigment loading and p… Show more

“…In the past three decades, phthalocyanine (Pc) compounds have attracted much attention because they have enormous potential for applications, such as semi conducting devices [1,2], photovoltaic and solar cell [3,4], gas sensors [5,6], and optical recording [7]. Pcs are interesting groups of compounds because their structure corresponds to porphyrine of which chlorophyll is a member and they have chemical and photochemical stability [8,9].…”

“…Organic semiconductors, like phthalocyanine, have attracted interest due to the low-dimensional nature of their electrical conduction and the current interest in solar energy conversion [1]. Cobalt phthalocyanine, being thermally and chemically stable, has been used as a material interesting from biological and chemical points of view.…”

“…3), the values of (E F À E v ) and l p N v have been calculated from the slope and intercept at 1/T = 0. Taking N v = 10 27 m À3 which correspond to one state per molecule [11] and d = 543 nm, the values of (E F À E v ), l p and p 0 are calculated for MgPc. (E F À E v ) and l p are found to be 0.69 ± 0.01 eV and 9.66 · 10 À7 m 2 V À1 s À1 (Error neglected).…”
