Dapson bei granulomatser Rosazea

Abstract: We report on two patients with granulomatous rosacea and another patient with granulomatous perioral dermatitis who responded well to dapsone. Dapsone has a pharmacological double function as both an antibiotic and an antiphlogistic drug. Before the introduction of isotretinoin, dapsone had its place in the treatment of severe acne. To date, its use in granulomatous rosacea has not been described. When hematologic parameters are monitored, dapsone is considered a safe and cost-effective drug, especially in cou… Show more

“…Dapsone has been successfully used in acne inversa [9, 10]. Krause et al described in 1997 the use of dapsone to treat granulomatous rosacea and granu‐lomatous perioral dermatitis [11], although to date there are no case reports of successful treatment of PCAS. Dapsone works by inhibiting neutrophil chemotaxis and prostaglandin synthesis.…”

“…More recently, Krause et al . 13 used dapsone in two subjects suffering from granulomatous rosacea. Subjects with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, most frequent in the Mediterranean regions, have a high risk for developing potentially life-threatening haemolysis and therefore should not be treated with dapsone.…”

“…31 Other oral antibiotics that have shown effi cacy in rosacea treatment include penicillin, erythromycin, amoxicillin, ampicillin, dapsone, as well as oral metronidazole. [32][33][34][35][36] Although not commonly used, these other oral antibiotics are useful when topical therapies are not well tolerated and there are contraindications to the use of tetracyclines (eg, erythromycin during pregnancy).…”
