Daphnauranins C–E, Three New Antifeedants from Daphne aurantiaca Roots

Abstract: Daphnauranins C–E (compounds 1–3), two sesquiterpenoids and one monoterpenoid were isolated from the roots of Daphne aurantiaca Diels. Daphnauranin C is a 9-O-13 etherified and hydroperoxy-substituted guaiane sesquiterpenoid, daphnauranin D is a guaiane sesquiterpenoid ketal, and daphnauranin E is a monoterpenoid lactone. Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive analyses of MS, 1D NMR, and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. In an anti-feeding activities test, daphnauranins C–E showed activity against male fru… Show more

“…The known sesquiterpenoids were identified as the elemanes melitensin ( 1 ), dehydromelitensin ( 2 ), compound 3 , compound 4 , and the germacranolides 11β,13-dihydrosalonitenolide ( 9 ), dihydrocnicin ( 10 ), and 11- epi -dihydroartemisiifolin ( 11 ) . The monoterpenoids daphnauranin E ( 12 ) and isololiolide ( 13 ) along with abscisic acid ( 14 ) were also isolated. The non-terpenoid fraction included the known lignans (−)-salicifoliol ( 15 ), never reported before for the genus Centaurea , pinoresinol ( 16 ), and arctigenin ( 17 ) and the flavonoid jaceosidin ( 18 ) .…”
