Damping Effect of Pendulum Tuned Mass Damper on Vibration of Two-Dimensional Rigid Body

Abstract: This study investigated the e®ect of a pendulum tuned mass damper (PTMD) on the vibration of a slender two-dimensional (2D) rigid body with 1:2 internal resonance. Focus is placed on the damping e®ect of various parameters of the PTMD on preventing the internal resonance of the system. The instruments used include¯xed points plots, time response and Poincar e maps, which were compared for con¯rmation of accuracy. The Lagrange's equation is employed to derive the equations of motion for the system. The method o… Show more

“…These studies prove that adjusting the location of passive dampers is an effective means to reduce vibrations in the main body. Wang and Hung [18] investigated the effect of a pendulum tuned mass damper (PTMD) on the vibration of a slender two-dimensional rigid body with 1 : 2 internal resonance. They focused on the damping effect of the various parameters of the PTMD in reducing the vibration of the system.…”
