Palm oil has become one of the fastest growing commodities in the world. Pasangkayu Regency is one of the areas that relies on the palm oil industry as the mainstay of the economic sector. Bountiful palm oil plantation increases the growth of the palm oil industry which leads to the waste production. This research was aimed to perceive the palm oil industry waste management system and examine the society's involvement and response to the waste utilization. Descriptive method was employed in this research. Then, the sample of this research was one of the palm oil industries in Pasangkayu Regency which was chosen purposively (Purposive sampling) and the society around the mill was determined proportionally based on the socio-cultural area of the society. The results revealed that the company adopted Technological Approach to overcome solid waste production and SocioEconomic Approach by involving the society indirectly. The response of the society around the company indicated that the existence of the palm oil industry and its waste production had a positive impact on the society. The company managed about 50% of solid waste and the rest was responded positively by the society as it was utilized for various purposes.

Revolusi industry 4.0 sebagai bentuk upaya transformasi menuju perbaikan proses dengan mengintegrasikan lini produksi dengan dunia siber, dimana proses produksi berjalan secara online melalui koneksi internet sebagai penopang utamanya. Kelapa sawit saat ini menjadi salah satu komoditas tanaman perkebunan andalan Indonesia dalam menghasilkan devisa. Industri kelapa sawit, memiliki pangsa pasar dengan pertumbuhan mencapai 9,23% pada tahun 2017. Selain itu, industri tersebut juga menjadi penyumbang devisa terbesar dari sektor non-migas yang mencapai hingga 34,33% di tahun 2017. Luas perkebunan kelapa sawit menurut Dirjen Perkebunan Departemen Pertanian telah berkembang menjadi 8,9 juta hektar di Indonesia. Strategi pengembangan kelapa sawit sangat perlu untuk dikembangkan, mengingat semakin kompetitifnya persaingan di pasar global dan juga sesuai dengan program peningkatan nilai tambah maka penting untuk mengetahui daya saing kelapa sawit di Indonesia dan menetapkan rumusan strategi yang mampu meningkatkan daya saing tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Industri 4.0 melalui inovasi dan teknologi berperan dalam meningkatkan produktivitas. Penerapan teknologi akan memperkuat keberlanjutan dari industri, termasuk industri sawit. Teknologi digital telah memudahkan banyak pekerjaan di industri sawit. Penyedia layanan cloud terkemuka di Indonesia, Datacomm Cloud Business bersama dengan mitra, memperkenalkan solusi Digital Perkebunan Terintegrasi SMART AGRICULTURE untuk Perkebunan pada umumnya dan perkebunan Kelapa Sawit. Smart Agriculture dapat menyongsong Industry 4.0 dan Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan.

Forty percent of the total oil palm plantation area in Indonesia belong to the smallholder palm oil plantations. The productivity of smallholder oil palm plantations is still relatively low, only around 2-3 tons of CPO/ha/year under PBN dan PBS. The aim of this study is to identify internal dan external constraints that cause low productivity of smallholder oil palm dan the recommended solutions. This research was taken in Sanggau dan Sintang Regencies which are the largest areas of smallholder palm oil plantation in West Borneo. Data obtained were analyzed by SWOT. The results showed that there were four main strategies to increase productivity dan solve problems on oil palm plantation in Sanggau dan Sintang Regencies, namely, 1) intensifying technical training of oil palm cultivation to increase the farmers’ knowledge dan capabilities, 2) increasing the role dan ability of farmer institutions both farmer groups dan ‘koperasi’ in establishing cooperation with stakeholders dan in marketing fresh fruit bunch (FFB), 3) escalating the awareness dan understanding of farmers in using digital information technology to support their business activities on oil palm, dan 4) strengthening the government protection against middlemen.
