Introduction: Early childhood development is related to sensitive period, a spesific period when a child is more easily stimulated by certain environmental stimulation. The right stimulation is needed to achieve good development. The intense use of touchscreen device is thought to potentially be a new form of stimulation that could affect child development. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between the use of touchscreen device and child development. Methods: The design of this study was observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study was cluster-sampling. Data collection was finished in October 2018 by interviewing the respondents and assessing child development using development pre-screening questionnaire (KPSP). Results: Among 91 samples of this study, the majority (78.0%) had actively operated touchscreen devices by themselves. The result of the Kruskal Wallis test gave a value of p = 0.398 (p > 0.05) with the mean rank of not at all 29.50; only watching 48,53; and operating 46.09. Conclusion: The use of touchscreen device is not significantly associated with children development. Further research needs to be conducted to uncover the effect of touchscreen device on child development.

This study aims to know of understanding of authoritative parenting style and affected the children behaviour while using a gadget. This is qualitative with data collection from an interview, observation, and document. Analysis of the data used by Miles and Huberman. The subject is parent’s and their children lived at Yogyakarta. This result is the parents with authoritative parenting can classify, analyze, comparing, and evaluate their parenting style. With those understanding gives the effect on children when the children used gadget at home such as show discipline and follow the parent's rules; the children have critical thinking and independent using the gadget. Even though authoritative parenting identical with gives freedom, they have to give limit time for children to use a gadget, 6 - 7 hours in a week. Another recommendation does not give the children a gadget even though a gadget is one of the basic need for communication.

ABSTRAK : Gawai merupakan media komunikasi yang tidak hanya menimbulkan dampak positif, melainkan juga negatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh perilaku kecanduan gawai terhadap perkembangan bahasa anak usia dini di Kecamatan Sedati Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan didukung metode korelasional dengan menggunakan teknik random sampling. Teknik pengambilan data berupa kuesioner/angket yang disusun menjadi butir-butir pertanyaan dengan menggunakan skala likert. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan telah melewati uji validitas dan reliabilitas pada TK Dharma Wanita dan dinyatakan valid dengan nilai signifikansi lebih besar dari 0.3 berada pada rentang 0.5 - 0.7 pada setiap butir pertanyaan. Selanjutnya uji reliabilitas yang diperoleh pada variabel perilaku kecanduan gawai dan perkembangan bahasa sebesar 0.776 dan 0.771 dengan kategori tinggi, sehingga butir pertanyaan pada instrumen penelitian dinyatakan valid dan reabel. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis data regresi linear sederhana, hasil yang diperoleh yakni perilaku kecanduan gawai berpengaruh negatif terhadap perkembangan bahasa pada anak usia dini dengan total pengaruh 20.7% di Kecamatan Sedati Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat dijadikan sebagai sumber informasi guru dan orangtua dalam mendidik anak usia dini di era digital.ABSTRACT : Gadgets are communication media that not only have positive but also negative impacts. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of device addiction behavior on early childhood language development in Sedati District, Sidoarjo Regency. This research is a quantitative research supported by a correlational method using random sampling techniques. The data collection technique is in the form of a questionnaire / questionnaire which is arranged into item questions using a Likert scale. The research instrument used had passed the validity and reliability test at TK Dharma Wanita and was declared valid with a significance value greater than 0.3 in the range 0.5 - 0.7 on each question item. Furthermore, the reliability test obtained on the variable of device addiction behavior and language development was 0.776 and 0.771 with the high category, so that the questions on the research instrument were declared valid and reliable. This study uses simple linear regression data analysis techniques, the results obtained are that device addiction has a negative effect on language development in early childhood with a total effect of 20.7% in Sedati District, Sidoarjo Regency. This research is expected to be used as a source of information for teachers and parents in educating early childhood in the digital era.
