Dacryocystocele: a rare cause of neonatal respiratory distress

Abstract: Dacryocystocele consist in congenital dilatation of the tear duct. It is a benign anomaly with a good prognosis that is caused by blockage of the nasolacrimal drainage system. Classically it appears as a bluish mass in the region of the inner edge of the eye and, less frequently, as respiratory distress in the neonatal period. We report a case of a newborn with episodic cyanosis and difficult feeding secondary to dacryocystocele.
