Cytotoxicity and cytokine expression induced by silorane and methacrylate-based composite resins

Abstract: The successful use of composite resins in Dentistry depends on physicochemical properties, but also on the biological compatibility of resins, because of the close association between pulp and dentin. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate cytotoxicity and cytokine production induced by light-cured or non-light-cured methacrylate-based and silorane composite resins in RAW 264.7 macrophages.Material and Methods Cells were stimulated with the extracts from light-cured or non-light-cured composite resins… Show more

“…It was reported that the contact period was another effective factor on the cytotoxicity of the materials. [ 19 , 65 ]. But, in the present study, cortical neuron cells are used instead of rat pulp cells [ 50 ].…”

“…Recently, in vitro and in vivo studies showed that monomers have been interrelated with genotoxicity [ 14 19 ], estrogenicity [ 14 , 17 , 19 , 20 ], immune system [ 19 , 21 , 22 ], hypersensitivity, cytotoxicity [ 14 , 15 , 23 , 24 ] and the production of reactive oxygen species [ 23 , 25 ]. Based on these literature data, it is necessary to know biological and chemical effects of dental materials on cells.…”

“…In a study evaluating the cytotoxocity and cytokine expression of silorane and methacrylate-based composite resins; it was proven that cytotoxicity was not observed in siloran-based composites within 6 h and 12 h. Also, the toxic symptoms were seen after 24 h [51]. In this study, there were a cell degeneration of approximately 13% in GFBCs and a cell degeneration of approximately 25% in CNCs after 72 h.…”
