Cytotoxic mixed-ligand copper(ii) complexes with 1H-tetrazole-5-acetic acid and oligopyridine derivatives

Abstract: 1,10-Phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyridine based copper(ii) complexes with 1H-tetrazole-5-acetic acid as anticancer agents selective against hepatocellular carcinoma cells have been synthesized.

“…41 In recent years, the bioactivities of copper(II) complexes with a tridentate-bidentate mixed ligand environment have got much attention due to their structural properties along with DNA/protein binding, cleavage and cytotoxicity studies. [42][43][44][45] Inspired from the above facts, we are interested in developing copper(II) complexes with mixed ligand motifs and investigating their DNA binding/fragmentation studies. Herein, we prepared two copper(II) complexes 1 and 2 with tridentate ligands having two different chromophores (anthracene and pyrene) attached along with the diimine (2,2′-bipyridine) system.…”

“…S. Melnic et al investigated the in vitro activity of triangular furoate cobalt-iron {Fe 2 CoO} complexes against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H 37 Rv [34] and determined that Fe(III) furoate compounds can be used to increase the content of iron in microorganisms, which can be used in the agricultural industry [35]. 1,10-Phenanthroline (phen) and 2,2 -bipyridine (bpy) are promising nitrogen-donor ligands, increasing the biological activity of metal complexes [36][37][38][39][40][41][42]. Our previous work showed the effectiveness of the combination of biogenic metals with HFur and various pyridines (phen, bpy, 4-phenilpyridine) in the suppression of the vital activity of both regular lines of mycobacteria [43,44] and the exhibition of antiproliferative activity [45].…”
