Cytotoxic meroterpenoids from the marine sponge Dactylospongia elegans

Abstract: Three new sesquiterpene quinones/hydroquinones, 20-demethoxy-20-isopentylaminodactyloquinone D (1), 20-demethoxy-20-isobutylaminodactyloquinone D (2), and 19-methoxy-dictyoceratin-A (3), and five known related compounds (4−8) were isolated from the marine sponge Dactylospongia elegans. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, ECD calculation, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and comparison with the literature. Compounds 3 and 5−8 exhibited activities against the human cancer cell lines DU14… Show more

“…Furthermore, 1 – 2 and 4 – 7 were significantly cytotoxic toward Panc-1 cells as well (Figure S2). Data for 4 , 5 , and 9 against PANC1 are consistent with a recent literature report [43]. Kauamide ( 10 ) showed no significant biological activity in any of the two of the assays (60% inhibition at 50 µM against U251; 15% inhibition at 83 μM against BACE1).…”

“…In the course of discovering of structurally diverse metabolites from marine sponges and sponge‐associated microbes, a sample of A. aaptos was re‐collected and subjected to chromatographic purification and two new quinoline alkaloids, aaptolines A ( 1 ) and B ( 2 ) ( Figure ), were isolated and identified. Herein, we report their structural elucidation and biological evaluation.…”

“…The chemical structures of compounds that were isolated from F. reticulata are 6,6'-bis-(debromo)-gelliusine F (Figure 6c), 6-bromo-8,1'-dihydro-isoplycin A and 5,6-dibromo-8,1'-dihydro-isoplycin A. A new compound, 19-methoxy-dictyoceratin-A (Figure 6d), was identified from the marine sponge D. elegans and exhibited anti-cancer properties [182]. The compound was shown to exhibit anti-cancer activity against human cancer cell lines DU145 (prostate cancer cell line), SW1990 (pancreatic cancer cell line), Huh7 (liver cancer cell) and PANC-1 (pancreas cancer cell line).…”
