“…The capsid structure of the W2 virus strongly resembles the capsomer arrangement of some members of the Reovirus (Smith et al, 1969;Wood, 1973;Joklik, 1983), Rotavirus (Palmer et al, 1977;Esparza & Gil, 1978;Holmes, 1983) and Orbivirus genera (Wood, 1973). However, we have not observed structures resembling the spikes described in cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus and on the cores of Reovirus (Hosaka & Aizawa, 1964;Joklik, 1974;Payne & Harrap, 1977;Joklik, 1983) or the A and B spikes of Fijivirus (Boccardo et al, 1980). Virus morphogenesis occurs in small dense areas scattered in the cytoplasm; we interpret these as viroplasms.…”
