“…HT29 secreted pro-infl ammatory cytokines, such as, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α and interleukins (IL) 1β and IL 6; growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor AA and transforming growth factors (TGF) α and β; chemokines such as fractalkine, IL-8, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and interferon-γ-induced protein 10; pro-angiogenic factors such as IL-15 and vascular endothelial growth factor; and immune-modulatory cytokines such as granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor and IL-3. It was suggested, based on previous reports on biopsy samples, that in vivo, a similar cytokine secretion profi le can be observed (Desai et al 2013 ).…”

“…Of importance is that it has been shown that G-CSF is released in mouse and NHP radiation models in a dose-dependent manner in response to ionizing radiation [3,19]. This has been substantiated by Desai et al [20] who found G-CSF (and other cytokines) to be secreted into the conditioned media of five different human tumor cell lines 48 hours after irradiation. Although a full dose-response curve for irradiation was not generated, 6 Gy irradiation evoked a significantly greater release of G-CSF than did 2 Gy.…”

“…E-cadherin and vimentin are markers of epithelial and mesenchymal cells, respectively (6). It has been previously demonstrated in A549 human lung carcinoma cell line that a number of cytokines are associated with EMT, including IL-8, VEGF, TGFβ and TNFα (26). It has also been reported that TGFβ is able to induce EMT in multiple cell lines via activation of the E-cadherin repressor (19).…”
