Cytogenetic verification of Curcuma candida (Zingiberaceae) from Thailand and Myanmar

Abstract: Curcuma candida is a conservation-vulnerable species, rare and endemic to the Tenasserim Range (Thio Khao Tanaosri). This species was initially classified into the genus Kaempferia, based on morphology of specimen from Myanmar, and was given the name K. candida in 1830, but the first specimen from Thailand was only discovered in 2000. With the addition of molecular evidence, the species was transferred to Curcuma. The aim of the present study was therefore to find cytogenetic identity of C. candida, by investi… Show more

“…While the chromosome numbers of these four species were studied by some scientists, i.e. Eksomtramage et al (2002), Sirisawad et al (2003), Saensouk and Saensouk (2004), Khamtang et al (2014), , Saenprom et al (2018), Mood et al (2020), Nopporncharoenkul et al (2020), Moonkaew et al (2020), Ikeda et al (2021), Saensouk (2021a, b, 2022). Two species (B. rotunda and K. rotunda) from these seven Zingiberaceae species were studied with the karyotype formula by Saenprom et al (2018), and Saensouk and Saensouk 2022.…”
