Cystic lymphangiomas of the colon

Abstract: We report a patient with cystic lymphangiomas diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasonography and resected by partial polypectomy. A 42-year-old woman consulted a nearby physician because of a positive fecal occult blood test. Barium enema and colonoscopy revealed the presence of abnormalities. On March 11, 1997, she was admitted to our department for further evaluation and treatment. A barium enema examination revealed two protruding lesions in the transverse colon. “…Complete surgical resection is the first choice for large lymphangiomas accompanied with complications such as bowel obstruction, bleeding, volvulus or intussusception (5). With the development of endoscopy, endoscopic resection is preferred for pedunculated and semipedunculated lesions of <2 cm (20). In the present case report, the patient exhibited recurrent bowel bleeding, and his lesions measured ≤10 cm; thus, laparoscopy-assisted surgical resection was conducted.…”

“…Hepatic fibrosis is triggered by recurrent liver injury, which results in the activation of perivascular stellate cells and other myofibroblasts [4] . This process may be reversible in its early stages, and there are reports of regression of liver fibrosis after biliary drainage in patients with chronic pancreatitis [5] . However, it is unusual to have significant improvement in hepatic fibrosis after years of liver injury.…”

“…Endoscopic resection has been recently performed for the diagnosis and treatment of colonic lymphangiomas [1] . Endoscopic mucosectomy has been recommended for pedunculated tumors less than 2 cm in diameter [1,5] . We report a colonic lymphangiomatosis associated with anemia and abdominal discomfort, which was treated with endoscopic mucosal resection.…”
