Cyclotricatechylene based porous crystalline material: Synthesis and applications in gas storage

Abstract: An undulated two-dimensional CTC-based covalent organic framework, CTC-COF, was synthesized through solvothermal reaction for the first time. This mesoporous material stacks in an eclipsed mode in the microcrystalline state. CTC-COF has a surface area of 1710 m 2 g À1 , with a pore width of 2.26 nm calculated by the NL-DFT modelling. The bowl-shaped core unit led to a larger surface area than its analogue, COF-5 constructed by planar subunits. This material has higher low pressure hydrogen uptake than other 2D… Show more

“…Table 2 (column 4) summarises the capabilities of hydrogen storage reported for the COF materials. 97,99,133 In general, COFs with larger surface areas possess higher hydrogen uptake capacities when measured under the same conditions. For example, COF-18Å with a BET surface area of 1263 m 2 g À1 shows the highest hydrogen uptake (1.55 wt% at 1 bar, 77 K) among similar 2D COFs with different alkyl chain lengths.…”

“…Planare Tri‐ oder Tetracatechole als Bausteine gewährleisten meist eine geordnete Schichtstruktur. Von Zheng et al stammt das erste Beispiel für ein zweidimensionales kovalentes Netzwerk mit einem nichtplanaren Tricatecholsystem 4. Das pyramidale Cyclotricatechylen (3) reagiert Lewis‐Säure‐katalysiert mit 1,4‐Phenyldiboronsäure (4) zum COF (5) (Abbildung 2, S. 899).…”

“…[33,34] When different substituents are attached to the upper edge of CTV, it has two kinds of chirality. Our group [37] previously reported the first CTC-COF based on hexahydroxyl cyclotricatechylene (CTC) and 1,4-phenylenebisboronic acid.
