Cyclometalated Platinum(II) Complexes Bearing Bidentate O,O′-Di(alkyl)dithiophosphate Ligands: Photoluminescence and Cytotoxic Properties

Abstract: Mononuclear complexes [Pt(ppy)(S∧S)] (1a, S∧S = O,O′-di(cyclohexyl)dithiophosphate (ctp); 2a, S∧S = O,O′-di(butyl)dithiophosphate (btp)) and [Pt(bzq)(S∧S)] (1b, S∧S = ctp; 2b, S∧S = btp) have been prepared by the reaction of precursor complexes [Pt(C∧N)Cl(dmso)], C∧N = deprotonated form of 2-phenylpyrdine (ppy) and 7,8-benzoquinoline (bzq), and potassium salt of S∧S ligands. All complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, and the structure of 2b was further identified by single crystal X-ray… Show more

“…Π‐extended cyclometalating ligands would be expected to offer the metal ion, a strong ligand field and consequently produce significant changes in the physical and chemical properties . In particular, cyclometalated platinum complexes have attracted long‐lasting interest due to their potential applications in a wide range of research areas such as organometallic synthesis, catalysis, organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) and the design of antitumor agents . The C^N‐cycloplatinated (II) complexes, where C^N = chelating carbon‐nitrogen donor ligand, were found to be reactive substrates for oxidative addition reactions …”

“…Standard 3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used for assessing cytotoxic activities of 1 and 2 according to a known protocol . The cells were harvested and plated in 96‐well microplates at a density of 1 × 10 4 cells per well in 100 μl of complete culture medium.…”

“…In the study presented here, based on our previous experiences in the field of luminescent cycloplatinated(II) complexes, we investigated in depth a series of dinuclear cycloplatinated(II) complexes containing different C^N cyclometalated ligands, and dppm or dppa as a linker between the two cycloplatinated(II) parts. A deep orange or red emission is observed for all cases in the solid state at 298 and 77 K. Also, all the complexes are emissive in solution at 298 K and glassy state.…”
