Customized Pessary Fabrication Using Three-Dimensional Printing Technology

Abstract: We report the successful insertion of a customized three-dimensional-printed pessary in a patient with SUI. Three-dimensional-printed pessaries are feasible and their utility may extend to the patient with anatomy incompatible with commercially available pessaries.

“…All parameters for the hydrogel rectal spacer and no shield treatment arms were estimated from SpacerOAR trial and other published literature (Table S1, Supporting Information). [ 38–58 ] The model was partially based off a previously published model. [ 44 ] Base‐case probabilities of developing radiation proctitis in the radioprotective rectal device treatment arm were estimated assuming the personalized radioprotectant rectal device would be 75% as effective as the hydrogel spacer.…”

“…Thus, 3D printing may be used in many different areas of operative planning and surgical training among obstetricians and gynecologists, including the planning of a complicated cesarean delivery [ 119 ], surgical planning for placenta accreta, treatment planning for cervical and endometrial cancer, and surgery for Mullerian anomalies and other benign gynecologic surgeries [ 111 , 119 , 120 , 121 ]. For instance, the knowledge of individual anatomy and pathology of the uterine cavity may essentially assist with fetal delivery from the myomatous uterus [ 119 ].…”

“…3DP can also be applied to the creation of patient-specific medical devices and customization of instruments and tools used in surgery to decrease costs and increase patient satisfaction and comfort [ 194 , 195 ]. Most medical devices are made in standardized sets of shapes and sizes and often do not provide the best fit for the patient using them.…”
