Abstract:Multiple treatment regimens have been used to successfully treat parotid hemangiomas. Although propranolol is a recent addition, it seems most promising. Further evaluation is warranted.
“…Some authors [38,39] advocated conservative parotidectomy for benign salivary gland tumors; however, the recurrence rate with this procedure has not been reported in pediatric group. Recently, the use of facial nerve monitoring or neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring has improved the functional preservation of the facial nerve [15]. In our study, two pleomorphic adenomas and one hemangioendothelioma had favorable outcomes after conservative parotidectomy.…”

“…More recently, propranolol has been found to be effective to treat parotid hemangioma; however, the further revaluation is warranted [15]. Localized therapies such as topical of imiquimod and intralesional injection with corticosteroids, ethyl alcohol or Bleomycin A5 are commonly therapeutic modalities [16][17][18].…”

“…Weiss and oth- er presented 56 children with IH of parotid gland, 70% being females [5]. Bluish or purple discoloration of overlying skin is a helpful clinical sign [6,7].…”
Tumors of salivary glands are uncommon in children (less than 5%). Hemangioma is the commonest tumor of salivary gland tumors (more than 50%). We report a rare case of infantile hemangioma (IH) of parotid gland.
“…8 It has also been used for preoperative or de fi nitive treatment of haemangiomas. 58 When using the sclerotherapy technique for arteriovenous malformations, an arterial catheter is used to angiographically localize the target lesion and monitor progress. Angiographic catheters are not used when treating venous or lymphatic malformations.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
