The present study evaluated slaughterhouse goat ovaries and follicles to know the effect of corpus luteum on the number and quality of ovarian follicles. For this study, 18 goat ovaries were collected and categorized as ovaries with corpus luteum (CL+) and without corpus luteum (CL–) group. Both groups were evaluated by morphometric measurements and histological observation. Among 18 ovaries, 12 ovaries contained CL (66.67%) and 6 ovaries were without CL (33.33%). Based on the morphometric measurements, the length and weight of the ovaries with CL were numerically higher (p>0.05) than those of the ovaries without CL. But the diameter of the ovaries with CL was significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of the ovaries without CL. In comparison to the CL– group, the CL+ group had a numerically higher (p>0.05) number of follicles with a diameter of 2-6 mm and > 6 mm. Histological analysis revealed that the total number of follicles (primary to antral) in CL– group (11.10±2.47) was numerically higher (p>0.05) than that of the CL+ group (10.07±2.47). Presence of primary (4.44±1.59), secondary (1.45±0.83) and antral (6.27±1.31) follicles were found higher (p>0.05) in ovaries without CL than that of with CL (4.05±1.61, 0.92±0.21, 5.08±1.21 respectively). On the other hand, the number of degenerated primary (1.29±0.56), secondary (0.52±0.14) and antral (3.38±0.66) follicles were found comparatively higher (p>0.05) in the ovaries with CL than that of the ovaries without CL (1.14±0.69, 0.37±0.19, 2.40±0.40 respectively). Since, there was no statistical difference found among the number of total and different types of follicles between ovaries with or without corpus luteum; hence, it may be summarized that both type of ovaries may be used for the retrieval of oocytes for further reproductive biotechnological study. A Study on Performance of Dairy Sector in India

The present study was undertaken to analyse the performance of the dairy sector in India by using compound growth rate analysis and to determine the trends observed in the parameters. It was observed that the compound growth rate of the livestock population was 0.89 per cent, positive and significant from 1956 to 2019. Buffalo population has shown a positive and significant growth rate of 1.43 per cent and 0.31 per cent for cattle and 1.58 per cent for goats. In comparison to indigenous cows, exotic or crossbred cows showed a greater significant growth rate of 5.14 per cent against 1.71 per cent. There has been observed a positive and significant compound annual growth rate of 4.71 per cent to milk production and 3.26 per cent for per capita availability. Dairy cooperative societies, producer members, milk procurement and liquid milk marketing showed a positive and significant compound annual growth rate of 3.47, 2.31, 7.78 and 6.04 per cent respectively. The compound annual growth rate of exports in quantity showed a positive rate of 14.24 per cent and imports with a negative growth rate of 9.70 over the period which indicates that India is a net exporter of dairy products.

Micrometry of Liver of Non-descript Goats of Jammu Region in Different Age Groups

The present study was conducted on the liver of non-descript goats of Jammu region during 2019. The samples were divided into young (below 1 year), adult (2–3 years) and senile (4 years and above) age groups as per the dentition. Six samples from each age group were collected. The capsule showed maximum thickness in adult age group. Maximum thickness of capsule was seen at upper part of main lobe (UPOML) in the liver of young, adult and senile age group. The diameter of central vein showed highest values in adult, followed senile group probably due to increased liver functions in adult. Inter-central vein distance was maximum in adult age group followed by young and senile groups. The mean values of length of hepatocytes ranged between 13.50 to 22.50 µm in all regions of liver of irrespective of age groups. The mean values showed higher values in adult and senile age groups. The nuclear diameter of the hepatocytes ranged between 9.00 to 13.50 µm with mean values varying between 9.75±0.50 to 10.50±0.64 µm in all the three age groups. Number of liver lobules per field was maximum at MPOML in senile group (14.16±0.61) whereas minimum number was observed at CL in young (4.41±0.22). Maximum number of portal triads per field was seen at VPOML in senile group (5.16±0.32) whereas minimum number was observed at VPOML in young group (3.08±0.19). In general, number of liver lobules and portal triads per field was highest in senile group followed by adult and young.
