Curcumin alleviates ischemia reperfusion‐induced late kidney fibrosis through the APPL1/Akt signaling pathway

Abstract: As a major cause of renal failure, transient renal ischemia and reperfusion induce both acute kidney injury and late fibrosis, which are the common pathological manifestations of end-stage renal disease. Curcumin is a biologically active polyphenolic compound found in turmeric. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that curcumin has a protective action against renal fibrosis, whereas mechanisms underlying the anti-fibrosis role of curcumin remain poorly defined. Here, we found that APPL1, an important intracell… Show more

“…Studies have suggested the protective effects of Cur against ischemia/reperfusion through the regulation of various pathways. For example, Chen et al found that Cur ameliorated ischemia/reperfusion-induced late kidney fibrosis by regulating the APPL1/Akt pathway [ 28 ]. Xu et al showed that Cur exerted neuroprotective effects against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by regulating the MEK/ERK/CREB pathway [ 29 ].…”

“…Recently, some studies have identified potential molecular targets in the viral replication cycle to determine the potential role of curcumin in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 (4,84,(93)(94)(95)(96)(97)(98). White blood cells (WBCs) are the key players in human immune systems and specifically lymphocytes have been found to produce increased levels of immunoglobulins (IgG and IgM) when Nawab et al (77) investigated the effect of curcumin on the immune profiles of the blood.…”

“…The curcuminoids in the turmeric acetone extract are crucial for the gastroprotective effect against ethanol-induced damage [ 14 ]. BDMC prevented kidney fibrosis by activating fibroblast apoptosis [ 15 ] and promoted apoptosis in human platelets via activation of ERK signaling pathway [ 16 ]. It induced cell apoptosis in liver cancer Hep 3B cells [ 17 ] and induced caspase-dependent and -independent apoptosis via Smad or Akt signaling pathways in osteosarcoma HOS cells [ 18 ].…”
