Abstract-The ethnic group in Medan city has played an important role to participate in the formation of support groups. The shift from social group concentration to the world of electoral politics gives a new nuance for us to understand the existence of ethnic groups in the life of democracy at the local level which in some cases leads to ethnic conflict in the elections. This study aims to explore the pattern of harmony communication relationships between ethnic groups supporting contestants in the election of regional heads in the city of Medan in 2015. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive method of case study type. The object of research conducted on two ethnic groups in the city of Medan in the community of the Chinese Tionghoa Indonesia (Paguyuban Suku Tionghoa Indonesia/PASTI) and Joko Tingkir community (Paguyuban Joko Tingkir). Result data through study, library study and documentation. The results of this study review the shift of topics that originally acted in the field of social and then move more broadly into the field of politics in the political practice they apply still uphold the social values contained in the culture of each ethnic through various interactions that promote harmony communications. between ethnic groups through mutual respect.

Values has been explored in connection to a deeper understanding of human behavior. Values provide the answer to the basic existential questions, help to provide meaning in one’s life. Values are the key aspects of one’s self-esteem. They reflect diverse aspects of one’s social identity. According to a number of scientists, ethnic identity is a part of social identity. A number of studies in psychology has a focus on the connection between ethnicity and ethnic values. There are two main approaches towards the study of values can be distinguished. On the one hand, there are values that have the existential basis for the existence of people. On the other hand, the information about ethnic values can have applied aspect. The aim of this study is to identify differences in value orientation among representatives of two main linguistic groups that live in Eastern Latvia: the group of Latvian and Russian-speaking participants. The second goal is to explore the influence of religion, age and gender on the values of the research participants. The methodology used for the purpose of this study was to determine value orientation towards family, religious and friendship. The authors discovered statistically significant differences only in relation to a value of friendship. This value turned out to be the highest among the Russian-speaking group as compared to the Latvian-speaking group, as well as in the Orthodox group as compared to the group of Catholics.

The article describes what indicators of the condition of society are used in Russia and abroad. Publications in which happiness, subjective economic well-being, life satisfaction, subjective quality of life and others are considered in this capacity, are reviewed. The question of the role of personality traits in assessing the situation in the country is raised, as well as the impact of these assessments on the economic behaviour of citizens. The results of the empirical study of 260 subjects using questionnaires, which include questions about the political, psychological, social, economic situation in the country, economic behaviour and psycho-diagnostic tests, are presented. The interrelations of assessments of the political and psychological situation in the country with personal traits and debt behaviour are revealed. Extraversion and openness to experience are negatively, and conscientiousness is positively interconnected with positive assessments of the state of the Russian society. The differences in assessments of the state of the Russian society among respondents with different investment preferences are described.
