Cryo-ablation for septal tachycardia substrates in pediatric patients

Abstract: Cryo-therapy was used to effectively and safely ablate septal tachycardias in this group of 31 pediatric patients. Cryo-therapy may be more effective for AVNRT than septal AVRT.

“…In our cohort, we found acceptable initial success rates, no evidence of permanent AV nodal injury, and a low rate of recurrence over mid‐term follow‐up. Previously published reports with Cryo using the 4‐ and 6‐mm tip catheters in pediatric patients have demonstrated procedural success rates of 83–97% and recurrence rates ranging from 0 to 18% 1,4–6,16–20 . Although there are likely differences between patient populations and Cryo technique over time, as well as growing experience and comfort with Cryo technology, the procedural success rate we report appears similar and the recurrence rate is promising.…”

“…Since the initial experience with cryoablation of AVNRT in children, the acute success rate has steadily improved following advances in cryomapping and cryoablation techniques and the identification of predictive factors for acutely successful slow pathway modification . By comparing the first reports on cryoablation of pediatric AVNRT with the most recent ones, the mean success rate has increased from 89% to 96%, that is quite similar to that reported for RFCA.…”

“…Over the last decade, an increasing number of studies have confirmed that Cryo is effective and safe . When first reports were compared with more recent ones, it was found that the mean acute success rate had increased from 89% to 98%. The acute success rate of our study (100%) confirms the excellent acute outcome of Cryo, as is also seen in some recent studies …”
