Cross preferences for colors and shapes

Abstract: Preferences for colors and geometric shapes vary considerably across individuals. Studies have demonstrated these variations in preference separately for colors and shapes, but the relationships between preference variations for colors and shapes are not yet known. By measuring individual preferences for basic colors and shapes, we found that color preferences and shape preferences were partly, but systematically, correlated. People who preferred some simple shapes (e.g., cone, pyramid) tended to prefer some l… Show more

“…During the second experiment, abstract geometric stimuli were used as CSs. Those stimuli were specifically crafted to prevent them from generating any intrinsic emotional reactions [64][65][66]. This time, stimuli associated with HR were consistently more pleasant than those associated with LR if considering the whole sample.…”

“…In a general sense, the two quantities scene perception (5) and associated parsimony (9) are in conflict with each other. In case all objects of a scene have the same achromatic color, then the parsimony of each object perception event is maximal.…”

“…The precise formulation of how the two principles take place in human vision, and under which color conditions their implementation yields the reward aesthetical pleasure is deemed to be, is a contribution by the present work. In the case of the visual system and its model presented here, the two principles of life mentioned above are respectively implemented via the two objectives formed by the two fuzzy neural tree root node outputs given by (5) and (9). The principle of "carrying information" is maximizing the likelihood of perception of the scene.…”

“…Additionally, our colourfulness manipulations implied adding more and new colours to our designs. Literature suggests that some people prefer certain colours to others (Bonnardel et al, 2011;Chen et al, 2016). In particular, people tend to prefer blue hues in websites (Seckler et al, 2015).…”
