Cross-layer Mobile Chord P2P protocol design for VANET

Abstract: Efficient content distribution is one of the emerging applications in vehicular networks. To provide scalable content distribution in vehicular networks, Chord peer-to-peer overlay could be applied. Most P2P protocols, including Chord, are designed for wired-line network, and might perform poorly in mobile networks. Mobile Chord (MChord) is proposed to enhance the P2P performance over vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). In addition, cross-layer design to improve MChord performance in VANET is also investigated. … Show more

“…The application-layer Chord network of both QUVoD and VMesh are implemented based on the MChord [19]- [20], extended according to their different individual algorithms. For QUVoD, we consider two wireless communication interfaces for each of the vehicle nodes: the IEEE 802.11p WAVE network interface and 4G WiMAX interface.…”

“…MeshChord [18] improves the basic Chord to efficiently utilize it in wireless mesh networks. Liu et al [19]- [20] proposed MChord to enhance the performance of Chord over VANETs. There are also other research works [21] and [22] which improve the Chord algorithm trying to adapt it to the mobile environment.…”

“…However, given hundreds of highways miles at which there is hardly enough budget to maintain and install lights on the roads, installing gateways every 2-10 miles will be very expensive and not a practical solution. Liu et al [9] proposed Mobile Chord (MChord), an enhancement of P2P performance over VANETs.…”

“…A service architecture over VANETs was proposed in [1] to provide users with time-sensitive information regarding traffic conditions and roadside services. In [2], vehicles construct an application-layer peerto-peer (P2P) overlay network on top of VANETs to support content delivery in vehicular networks. However, these VANET-based systems require a sufficient number of vehicles participating in VANETs.…”
