A "hérnia das crucíferas" é a principal doença na produção de brássicas na Região Metropolitana de Curitiba-PR. Fatores ambientais favoráveis, ausência de cultivares resistentes e de controle químico eficiente, aliados ao plantio sucessivo de espécies da mesma família, têm colaborado para sua disseminação. Com o objetivo de controlar a doença com menor impacto ambiental, o presente estudo verificou o efeito do pré-plantio de plantas medicinais e aromáticas na redução de inóculo de Plasmodiophora brassicae. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação no Setor de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal do Paraná, nos períodos de junho a novembro de 2003 e julho a dezembro de 2004. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado com nove tratamentos e seis repetições. As plantas utilizadas nos tratamentos foram: menta (Mentha piperita L.); alfavaca (Ocimum basilicum L.); bardana (Arctium minus Hill); calêndula (Calendula officinalis L.); cebolinha (Allium fistulosum L.); salsa (Petroselinum hortense Hoffm) e sálvia (Salvia officinalis L.), e como testemunhas foram utilizados solos sem patógeno e solo infestado, ambos em pousio. Utilizaram-se vasos contendo 3 Kg de solo esterilizado via vapor e como inóculo de P. brassicae foram utilizados 2,5 g de galhas por vaso. A rúcula (Eruca sativa Mill) foi o hospedeiro suscetível utilizado. Após 45 dias do plantio da rúcula foram determinadas a massa aérea fresca, incidência de galhas galhas e o índice de severidade. A maior massa aérea fresca e as menores severidades foram obtidas no experimento de 2003, nos tratamentos com o pré-plantio das medicinais bardana, salsa, menta, alfavaca e cebolinha.

“…According to recent reports (Konieczny 2012;Jedryczka et al 2013Jedryczka et al , 2014Korbas et al 2014), clubroot infestation is estimated to affect over 250,000 ha of agricultural soils in Poland, representing around one third of the acreage of oilseed rape cultivation. This outbreak is a result of the intensive cultivation of oilseed rape and lack of rotations, or only brief rotations, with non-cruciferous crop species, which is known to increase disease incidence (Robak 1994;Dixon 2009b). The pathogen (P. brassicae) is highly variable, with P 1 and P 3 pathotypes prevailing in Poland (Ričařová et al 2016), according to the classification by Somé et al (1996).…”

Clubroot, caused by the protozoan parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae Woronin, is one of the most damaging diseases of Brassica napus worldwide. Resistant plant material is valuable for cultivation in all areas of high incidence of the disease and intensive growth of oilseed rape. We have evaluated clubroot resistance, plant morphology and seed quality in 15 lines of an F 4 generation and selected six lines of F 5 generation of interspecific hybrids obtained from a cross between a male sterile line of B. napus 'MS8', selected from resynthesized oilseed rape (B. rapa ssp. chinensis × B. oleracea var. gemmifera) and an ecotype of B. rapa ssp. pekinensis. Clubroot resistance was evaluated using a bioassay with P 1 -P 5 pathotypes of P. brassicae (according to the classification of Somé et al. 1996). The resistance to the pathotype P 1 was successfully fixed in the F 5 generation, and improved in some lines in respect to the pathotypes P 2 -P 4 . The resistance to P 1 and the other tested pathotypes was not linked. Characterization of plant material included recent techniques of FISH and BAC-FISH with a special focus on the analysis of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) of selected individuals. Two hybrid lines combined high levels of resistance with appropriate plant morphology, good seed quality traits and a stable chromosome number and arrangement. Recent techniques of 'chromosome painting' provided good insight into chromosome organization in the hybrids obtained, and offered opportunities of further improvement of the breeding process.

Germination of resting spores of Plasmodiophora brassicae , causal agent of clubroot in crucifers, may be stimulated by certain nonhost plants. Without a host plant to infect, such germination would lead to a reduced persistence of resting spores in the soil. The effect of four nonhost plants on P. brassicae was investigated in a 3-year field experiment and a 14-month glasshouse experiment. Three of the plant species used, leek ( Allium porrum ), winter rye ( Secale cereale ) and perennial ryegrass ( Lolium perenne ), have been reported to stimulate resting spore germination, while the fourth, red clover ( Trifolium pratense ), does not. In the field experiment, none of the plant species reduced the concentration of P. brassicae in soils when tested with bioassay plants (Chinese cabbage, Brassica rapa var. pekinensis ). In the glasshouse experiment, there was a lower disease level in all plant treatments compared with the plant-free control following incorporation and decomposition of plant roots. At this time, pH in the soils with plant treatments was higher than that in the control soil. There were no indications of a species-specific interaction between any of the nonhost plants investigated and P. brassicae , and it cannot be concluded that any of them would be useful in the sanitation of P. brassicae -infested soils within short time periods.
