Crop-Cattle Integrated Farming System: An Alternative of Climatic Change Mitigation

Abstract: An integrated farming system is one of the alternatives for climatic change mitigation. This paper reports the application of corn-cattle based integrated farming system in Agrotechno Park Center of Palembang, and discusses its impact on CO 2 fixation and the reduction of methane emissions. The study was based on the data of the first 6 yr from 2003 until 2009. The CO 2 fixed in the soil and plants was determined based on the content of organic C which was multiplied by the index of 3.67. The methane gas produ… Show more

“…The development of a large number of infective stage of parasites within a certain season will be followed by a high mortality rate (one to several weeks) (Taylor et al, 2016). The concept of integrated cropcattle farming system by Munandar et al (2015) should be considered in the level of SPR in Banten Province. Processed fecal materials from swamp buffaloes can be used as an organic fertilizer for crop as well as eliminator of parasites during their pre-parasitic stages.…”

“…Wahyuni (2015) argued that integrated agriculture is an alternative effort in order to improve the efficiency of cattle business in farmland. Furthermore, the Farming System Integration is an alternative to climate change mitigation (Munandar et al, 2015), and is often recommended as one of the most promoted solutions in terms of decreasing soil fertility and the loss in intensification system productivity (Ezeaku et al, 2015). Swarnam et al (2014) suggests an integrated approach to farming systems leads to improved household nutrition, income and employment creation.…”

“…The capacity to add cattle in an area was influenced by climate, family structure, land use, production management and technology (Lole et al, 2013;Lisson et al, 2010). Integrated farming systems, for example by utilizing maize, cattle feces could also be used to mitigate feed risks due to climate change (Munandar et al, 2015). The problem of land use for agriculture and livestock was not directly related to reduce forest area (Gollnow and Lakes, 2014).…”
