Crocodile Farming and Its Present State in Global Aquaculture

Abstract: The green-lipped mussel Perna viridis (L.) were collected from four sampling locations of the Maheshkhali channel, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh to determine the concentration level of zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). The concentrations (µg/g dry weight) of these trace metals ranged from 28.12 to 33.82 for Zn, 7.26 to 8.81 for Cu, 0.04 to 0.08 for Cd and 0.19 to 0.75 for Pb. The concentrations of trace metals in the mussel tissue were found at lower level than the permissible limits for human cons… Show more

“…Die teel van Nylkrokodille is van groot kommersiële belang in suidelike Afrika, vanweë die gesogtheid van hul leer (Fergusson, 2010;Tosun, 2013). Die oorlewing en groei van broeilinge het 'n impak op die aantal en grootte van krokodille wat geslag word vir hul velle en daarom op leerproduksie en die ekonomie daarvan (Isberg et al, 2005).…”

“…). The growing production of crocodile farming in the last decades has been mostly associated with the American alligator ( Alligator mississippiensis ) and the Nile crocodile ( Crocodylus niloticus ) (Tosun ). Culture practices usually start with egg harvesting, which is currently forbidden due to their endangered status, or purchasing eggs from existing farms.…”

“…Crocodile skins for clothing and accessories Crocodile skin and claws are often used for clothing and accessories, which makes crocodile production a lucrative industry that has been mostly concentrated on the improvement of management and husbandry techniques, such as nutrition and housing (Isberg et al 2003). “…They are apex predators found throughout South and East Asia and into Australasia [ 7 ]. Crocodylus porosus , like most other crocodilians, are poikilothermic, basking diurnally as a means of regulating internal body temperature [ 8 9 ]. Crocodilians are primarily nocturnal hunters [ 9 10 ]; however, they appear to exhibit a similar nocturnal ‘basking’ behavior [ 11 ].…”
