Croatian Disarmament Strategies in the 21st Century

Abstract: S obzirom na porast oružanog nasilja na samome početku 2000-ih godina, hrvatsko je Ministarstvo unutarnjih poslova 2007. godine u suradnji s Programom Ujedinjenih naroda za razvoj (UNDP-om) pokrenulo nacionalnu strategiju razoružanja koja je uključivala programe dobrovoljnog prikupljanja oružja, zakonsku amnestiju i kampanje s ciljem podizanja svijesti građana. “…Thus, in the Balkans, one can distinguish gun policy debates concerning proliferation of weapons of war during 1990s conflicts, from those concerning handguns. As in Georgia, the official goal of removing weapons of war has not led to disarming society altogether, yet widespread handgun ownership does not create a Latin American-style crime epidemic (Sanjurjo, 2017(Sanjurjo, , 2019Sanjurjo and Kožina, 2018).
