In today’s global community, 21st century skills are essential for all students. In addition, in a digital world, technology is expected to be part of students’ educational experiences. In this article, I provide practical strategies and ideas for incorporating technology into general music curriculum to promote students’ 21st century skills. In particular, I offer specific practices that utilize technology to meet 21st century skills—creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, global awareness, and technology literacy.

This study investigated the absolute music's short-term effect on Chinese college students' academic performance. One questionnaire contains Chinese college freshmen level Math problems (Estimated time: 40 mins), which were picked from several final review question lists. Based on our two groups (totally 52 persons) of participants' Math learning experiences during the first year of college. One group of students listened to absolute music for 30 minutes before the Math test, another group of students did not listen to absolute music before the Math test. The result of the comparison between two groups revealed differences among two groups. The group with absolute music had a higher average score and used less time than the non-absolute music group. Our findings echoed previous studies on the relationship between absolute music and academic performance, enabling us to better understand the positive study effect of absolute music.

This paper explores the political and social forces that have led to the well-documented narrowing of the curriculum, squeezing out arts programming in schools. While not intended to be an exhaustive literature review, this work highlights important findings that correlate arts learning with biological changes as well as cognitive and academic advantages. Further, it explores how the arts may be the key to promoting twenty-first century skills of creative thinking and problemsolving. From this review, we hope that educators and policymakers will reconsider how arts education and arts-integrated learning can influence educational practices and policies.
