Critical heat flux in saturated forced convective boiling on a heated disk with an impinging jet

Abstract: Abstract. The present study introduces a new correlation predicting critical heat flux (CHF) for a saturated forced convective boiling with an impinging jet. The new correlation is able to predict all the CHF data in V-regime with a good accuracy of • 20% to which the correlations existing until now could not be applicable for 15 < 0I/Q,. < 100 and D/d> 36. The new correlation seems to support a new criterion of CHF mechanism applicable for not only pool boiling but also forced convective boiling, recently pro… Show more

“…( 18), for a single jet centered on a circular heater using water, R-113, and R-12. This correlation also underpredicted the experimental data and had a mean absolute error of 51 % 1 (18a) [42] and Katto and Yokoya [41] are presented against the experimental data in Fig. 10(a).…”

“…These regions are characterized by different velocity profile due to interaction of mass, momentum, and energy within the fluid and with surrounding fluid both in axial and radial direction . These regions are further responsible for different boiling and heat transfer performance by hot surfaces and have been discussed several times in the literature …”

“…When liquid cannot be supplied to this sub-layer, dry-out occurs, and CHF is reached. Considerable work has been done to develop non-dimensional correlations that show the dependence of the CHF on other parameters [13,25,[28][29][30][31][32]. Typically in the literature, empirical correlations are presented only for certain simple geometries.…”
